In an attempt to control the local homeless population, the city of Ontario sectioned off a plot of land to be used as a homeless encampment that began with two dozen locals last summer and has since grown to about 400 people — naturally.

Who doesn’t want free camping?
Tent City Location:

Originally, Ontario set aside a few vacant lots for the local homeless in an effort to lure them away from dangerous overpasses, bridges and railroad tracks. Tents were provided, food was donated and the city provided portable toilets.
The population rapidly grew from 18 to more than 400. What originally was slated to aid the local homeless, City Officials quickly realized that “Free Camping For All” can get out of hand. A few days ago they began issuing wrist bands — like at the dance club.
After initially allowing RV’s to park on the property, Police suddenly began towing “homes” away.

Pattie Barnes, 46, learned Wednesday just how serious the warnings were.
She was sitting in her motor home when a police officer approached.
“He asked me to start it. I tried, but the battery was dead,” said the tearful Barnes. “The officer wouldn’t give me any time to jump-start it. He just said, ‘It’s mine.’ ”
She begged him not to take the vehicle and sobbed as it was towed away.
I think the best we can hope for is a homeless riot.
